Asbury Academy Tutoring & Mentoring

Asbury Academy is an alternative school for middle and high school students in Lincoln County. Students attend this school for a variety of reasons. Some are there for disciplinary reasons, some because they are having a difficult time learning in their home schools, and others because they are behind and need an opportunity to catch up before returning to their home schools or graduating from high school. This school doesn't have a Parent Teacher Organization, as is common with other local schools, and sometimes the needs of these students and the school itself are higher. Helping Hands has partnered with Asbury Academy for several years, fulfilling needs within the school by improving the learning environment, both indoors and outside, and through interacting with the students, through parties and special events and through mentoring. There is currently a need for mentors to meet with specific students one hour each week during the school day.

Many students at Asbury are entering the work force and do not have the clothing and shoes needed for their new jobs. We have been asked to help by providing Walmart gift cards so students can purchase needed non-skid shoes, paints, shirts, and basic personal items.
